Gernon Road

runs along the back of the Letchworth Shopping Center from the town square to Norton Way South

From the square moving down the street on the left side are:

The Broadway Cinema , A pub, formerly The Black Squirrel public house, presently a Chilli restaurant, the Back of Letchworth's Garden Square Shopping Centre with some public and commercial vehicle access for collections and deliveries, then a Chinese Restaurant and foot access to Garden Square shopping centre behind the bus stop. Beyond this a relatively new office block occupied by North Herts District Council now they have moved from the old Town Lodge. The side road Rowland Way leads to the multi storey car park, a new open car park and rear access to many of the shops on the South side of Leys Avenue. Finally on the left in Gernon Road is the car park and hall for the Free Church.

The road ends at Norton Way South opposite the Bowling Green.

On the right side of the road starting back at the square are:

the Library, the Town Lodge formerly used as a school and later as council offices, then a variety of housing some of which were part of the second Letchworth Cottage Exhibition of 1907, the main site of which was Lytton Avenue (which you will come to later in the tour). There is also a narrow no-through road (dont believe your sat-nav), Gernon Walk where you can find more housing and no. 6, Vasanta Hall used by the Theosophical Society and Spritualists for meetings and and no. 7 Nanaksar Thath Isher Darbar, see Places of Worship in the main Directories section of this site.
