The reason for all this effort planning to create an open square at the junction is the imposing building shown below.

This was the Pixmore Institute designed by George Lister Sutcliffe built 1908-1912. Originally a social club for the residents of the estate, this is now a school.

The wing shown to the right of the structure was supposed to have been repeated on the left, but this was never built.

As you walk down Hillshott the style of the houses are varied as many of them were developed individually.
