Around The Town Square

The Easiest way to show you around the middle / south of Letchworth is to work our way around the Town Square, the layout is similar to a spiders web around a central axis, see here I will be looking at each radiating road in turn, and a couple of the radial streets, each is an original street with early housing. You will be able to return to this page using the link provided :-

Starting at the Old Town Hall and moving around the square clockwise,

Gernon Road is next to the Library on one side and the end of Eastcheap / Broadway Cinema on the other

Pixmore Way is next, situated between the Catholic Church and the Nexus building, it is possibly longest of the streets that radiate from the square , this is a direct route (via the longabout at Letchworth Gate) to the the A1( M ) road link to London and the North and A505 (Baldock By-Pass) to Royston, the A10 and M11.

Meadow Way is the road on the other side of the Nexus building

South View another original street radiating from the town square, leading eventually to Sollershotts East

Each of these roads crosses or has a junction with Lytton Avenue one site of Urban Cottage Exhibition of 1907

Broadway continues down the town's central axis to Sollershott Circus, known as the First Roundabout

West View next to St Michaels Church leads to Broadwater Lane and housing developed between 1915 and 1925 on the Western Edge of Letchworth, is the only exit leading towards the West of the town.

If you have finished following all the streets around here continue the tour by going back to the Broadwalk to explore the town center and Northern areas
